Chew gum. WebMD also reveals that chewing sugarless gum may whiten your teeth, as it increases the amount of saliva in your mouth, which may help remove stains.

Use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for whiter teeth. According to BeautyTipsOnline, rinsing with hydrogen peroxide after you brush your teeth will naturally whiten teeth within a few weeks. Use baking soda on a wet toothbrush with or without toothpaste as another natural means of whitening teeth.

Limit or avoid foods, substances and beverages that cause stains. According to WebMD, coffee, tobacco, fruit juices, dark sodas, tea, red wine, cranberry juice, grape juice, beets, blueberries, blackberries and sports drinks all can cause stains on the teeth. Medications such as tetracycline, antihistamines, antipsychotic and antihypertensive medicines can also stain teeth.

Get the ok from your dentist. Choose your whitening agent. There are many products on the market that whiten teeth, such as whitening strips, whitening trays and paint-on whitening products. According to Good Housekeeping, dentists promote trays and strips for at-home whitening because they allow the peroxide to sit on the teeth for the longest amount of time. Trays and strips also provide the most dramatic results; they can whiten your teeth more than five shades.

Apply the whitening agent and follow the instructions listed on the product. Most products instruct you to use them for a certain amount of time for a certain number of days. For example, most whitening strips must be placed on the teeth for 30 minutes per day for best results.
