How to Insert Alt Tags Into Word Documents

Alternative tags are used to describe images on the Internet. They are helpful for search engines and people with disabilities. The text within an alt tag displays when you rest your mouse over an image containing it or if an image is not viewable on a web page. Alt tags won't display in a Word document even if you switch your views, but you can customize the text you want to display.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the document containing the image you're working on in Microsoft Word. Right-click on the image on your page.

    • 2

Select "Size" from the pop-up menu and select the "Alt Text" tab in the "Size" dialog box.

    • 3

Type in the alternative text for the tag and click "OK."
