How to Secure Micro SD Cards

How to Secure Micro SD Cards thumbnail
Protect and secure your micro SD cards from being lost or damaged.

Micro SD (Secure Digital) cards are much smaller than standard SD cards, so they can be easily lost. Micro SD cards are small flash memory units often used in portable devices such as PDAs, cell phones, cameras and GPS units. These cards can store up to 4GB of memory, though 1GB and 2GB units are more common. Due to the small size, additional safety precautions should be taken to protect and secure your micro SD card.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep the micro SD card inside of its device. A cell phone is larger than a micro SD card and therefore will be harder to lose or misplace. Also, if you drop the device, the micro SD card will be insulated from the impact by the larger device.

    • 2

Store the micro SD inside of a protective case when not being used in a media device. Micro SD casings are made of hard plastic designed to protect against damage from dings or being dropped.

    • 3

Insert the micro SD card into a card adapter. Most adapters are designed to accommodate a micro SD card, making it compatible with devices which support standard-sized SD cards but not micro cards.Slide the selector switch on the left side of the adapter to the "down" position to write-protect the micro SD card. This will prevent data being accidentally erased or formatted.

    • 4

Do not share your micro SD card with other people. This is the best way to ensure that unauthorized eyes will not snoop through your sensitive data on the micro SD card.
