Increase the reception of your Wi-Fi card with a Wi-Fi antenna.

Wireless adapters connect to a desktop or laptop computer system through either the PC expansion card slot or via USB data port. These both allow you to receiver wireless Internet connections on a system not designed to do so. Many of these receivers have a built-in antenna connection port, which allows you to increase the overall wireless reception of your computer by installing a Wi-Fi antenna into the hardware.

      Connect the Wi-Fi receiver to your computer system. You must have the receiver attached to the computer when mounting the antenna.

      Look over the Wi-Fi receiver to make sure you have an antenna expansion port. This is roughly the size of a headphone jack and is located on the side of your Wi-Fi receiver, if you have such a connection. Without it, you are unable to mount the antenna.

      Plug the cable running out of the antenna into the antenna connection port on the Wi-Fi receiver.

      Install any software updates that are provided with the antenna (insert the CD into the disc drive, then follow the prompts of the installation wizard that loads onto the screen). Not all antennas come with this CD, but some require the installation to information the computer of the increased wireless connection range.
