How to Airbrush for Natural Smooth Skin
Airbrushing is a way to achieve a flawless foundation. The airbrush atomizes liquid makeup into tiny droplets that are sprayed onto the skin, resulting in a smooth, natural finish. There are many makeup airbrush packages available that include everything you need to begin working right away. Airbrushing your makeup takes some practice, but the end result is well worth the effort. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Gravity-feed airbrush with compressor and hose
- Airbrush foundation
- Makeup remover wipes (optional)

1
Connect the airbrush to the compressor with an air hose. Plug in the compressor and set the pressure to between 8 and 12 PSI. Any less and the airbrush will have trouble atomizing the product, much more will cause clouds of product to form in the air (which you don't want to breathe).

2
Prepare your skin by cleansing and moisturizing it. If you have flaky skin you should use exfoliate to remove the flakes, an airbrushed foundation will greatly accentuate them.

3
Select an airbrush foundation that closely matches your skin tone. You will probably have to mix two or more shades for a perfect match.
Liquid makeup can be thinned to run through an airbrush using the proper thinner (see tips), but you will get the best results with a product that is designed for an airbrush.
-
4
Add the foundation to the paint reservoir on the airbrush. Do not add more than 10 drops at a time to avoid wasting product.
If using multiple shades, mix them by pressing your finger over the tip of the airbrush and pressing the trigger, forcing the air to bubble into the reservoir. This is called back bubbling.
-
5
Begin spraying into the air, then move the airbrush onto your face. This will ensure that any built-up product on the tip does not spatter onto your skin. Do this every time you stop spraying.
-
6
Airbrush your skin in smooth, even strokes. Do not allow the product to build up too heavily or it will accentuate lines and creases in your skin. If you are a beginner it may take several tries to get the right finish, but airbrush makeup wipes off easily.
-
7
Allow the foundation to dry. This takes no more than 30 seconds. Airbrush foundation does not need to be powdered.

Tips & Warnings
To thin a liquid makeup check the ingredients on the product. Use water for water-based makeup and silicone fluid (available at high-end makeup stores) for silicone-based.
Hold a tissue at the edge of your hair to keep product from spraying into it.
Always use proper ventilation when airbrushing and hold your breath while working around your nose.
If the room fills with a haze of makeup particles, leave and allow the room to clear before continuing.
