How to Play Marble Solitaire With 66 Marbles

How to Play Marble Solitaire With 66 Marbles thumbnail
Marble Solitaire can be played with as many marbles as you wish as long as your board has enough grooves.

Marble solitaire is a game traditionally played by moving 44 marbles around a cross-shaped board with 45 spaces, removing the pieces as they jump one another. Variations of the game also include 68 marbles on 69 spaces and 76 marbles on 81 spaces. If you have 66 marbles you will need a board with at least 67 spaces. You can play with 66 marbles using the same rules and strategies as other variations of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a marble on the upper-left space of the game board. Place another marble directly to the right of it.

    • 2

Add marbles onto the board, one next to the other until all 66 are placed. Count the open spaces left on the board.

    • 3

Arrange the marbles so that no two empty spaces are directly adjacent to one another. The empty spaces can be diagonal from one another.

    • 4

Pick up a marble on the board that has one other marble between it and an empty space on the board. Place the marble in the empty space.

    • 5

Remove the marble that your placed marble jumped over to reach the empty space and place it aside.

    • 6

Pick up another marble and jump one marble into an old or newly created space on the board. Remove the jumped marble.

    • 7

Jump and remove marbles until there are no marbles adjacent to one another on the board.

    • 8

Count the remaining marbles. One or two marbles is considered a victory while more than that is considered a failure.

    • 9

Replace the marbles on the board and begin again, trying to leave only one of the 66 marbles on the game board.

Tips & Warnings

  • A larger board with more empty spaces allows you to tackle the puzzle from multiple areas, making it easier to leave only one marble.
