How to Enable Aero in VMware

Since you share the resources between one operating system and another when using virtualization software such as VMWare, you do not enjoy the benefits of using the glossy Aero interface in Windows Vista and Windows 7 through the software. You must use unconventional methods to get around this limitation because of the way VMWare interprets your graphical capabilities. Just make sure you have a strong enough graphics card to handle two operating systems on Aero. You should use a graphics card with at least 512 MB DDR2 VRAM or better.

Instructions

    • 1

Open VMWare and run your Windows Vista virtual machine like you normally would start any virtual machine. To access your machine the short way, just press the green "Play" button on the top of the window with the machine selected.

    • 2

Click your "Start" menu inside the virtual machine once it boots and click "All Programs." Navigate to "Accessories" and click "Command Prompt."

    • 3

Type "ipconfig" in the command prompt and press "Enter" on your keyboard.

    • 4

Write down the computer's IP address and minimize the virtual machine. You don't need to do anything else on it.

    • 5

Access the "Accessories" menu on the host operating system like you did in Step 2 and click "Remote Desktop Connection." Click the "Options" button on the bottom left corner and click the "Display" tab at the top of the screen. Select "32-bit" as the color scheme and go back to the "General" tab. Type the IP address you wrote down in the "Computer" field and click "Connect." Log in to your virtual machine and click "OK." You now see the virtual machine with Aero.
