Disassembling your laptop isn't a huge challenge, and can save you money.

Taking apart your HP Pavilion dv6000 makes it easy for you to upgrade your laptop or make hardware repairs. Being able to disassemble your HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and do a few main tasks on your own will prevent you from having to take the laptop to a computer repair shop, a step that can often put your computer out of commission for several days and cost a lot of money.

Instructions

    • 1

      Shut your HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop off, and disconnect any devices connected to your HP laptop. Turn the laptop upside down.

      Push the battery-lock latch, located in the lower-right corner of your laptop, to the right to release the battery from the laptop. Remove the battery.

      Remove the three screws along the bottom of the battery bay using a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the keyboard cover. Then remove the two screws on the upper-left half of the battery bay to loosen the keyboard.

      Remove the screw one inch above the middle of the battery bay to release the CD/DVD-ROM drive located along the lower-right edge of the laptop.

      Insert a paper clip into the small hole to the left of the eject button, causing the drive to stick out a little bit. Remove the CD/DVD-ROM drive.

      Rotate your laptop so the side that opens is closest to you.

      Remove the two screws on the right side of the hard drive cover, located in the lower-right corner of the laptop. Remove the cover.

      Grab the pull-tab on the right side of the hard drive and pull the hard drive to the right edge of the hard drive bay to disconnect it from the laptop, then lift and remove the hard drive.

      Remove the two screws in the top corners of the memory module cover, located to the left of the hard drive bay. Then, remove the cover.

      Push the retention clips on the short sides of the memory module away from the module, which causes the module to raise upward. Pull the module carefully out of its slot.

      Remove the screw in the upper-left corner inside the memory module, then the screw just outside of the upper-right corner of the memory module to loosen the keyboard.

      Turn the laptop right-side up and position it so the side that opens is closest to you, then open the monitor and push it back as far as possible.

      Lift and remove the keyboard cover behind the last row of keys.

    • 14

      Lift the rear section of the keyboard and place the keyboard face down in front of the mouse touch pad.

    • 15

      Push the black plastic pieces on each side of the the connector base where the ribbon cable extending from the keyboard connects to the laptop to release the ribbon cable. Carefully pull the ribbon cable out of the laptop, then remove the keyboard.
