The Conficker virus can be difficult to remove because it can crack administrator passwords. It also spreads to a USB drive, which means any kind of flash drive you have connected will have this virus. You can use a removal tool from Microsoft or an anti-virus program to remove the Conficker virus from your computer.

Instructions

  1. Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool

      Download the Malicious Software Removal Tool (see Resources.) Close all open programs on your computer. Click on the installation link and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program onto your computer.

      Choose "Full Scan" as the type of scan. It will immediately update and scan your computer for viruses. This scan will take about one hour to finish. When it finishes the scan, the program will list any viruses found. Click the "Remove" button to delete the viruses from your system.

      Click the "Finish" button when the program finishes removing the viruses and restart your computer.

    Spyware Doctor with Antivirus 2010

      Download Spyware Doctor with Antivirus (see Resources). Click on the installation link and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program.

      Open Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and select "Smart Update." Make sure "OnGuard" is activated. If it is not click the "Activate" button. On the "System Status" screen, make sure "Computer Immunization" is on. If it is turned off, click "On."

      Click "Start Scan" on the left and the "System Scan" window will open. Click the "Full scan" button under scan type and click the "Scan Now" button. If viruses are found on your computer, click the "Fix Checked" button to remove the infected files.

    AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

      Download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (see Resources). Click on the installation link and follow the on-screen instructions to install it on your computer.

      Click the "Check for Updates" button and click on the "Internet" button. Click "Update" and "Update Now." The update will take about five to 10 minutes to complete. When the update is finished you will be returned to the main screen.

      Click "Scan Computer." The scan will take about 30 minutes to an hour depending upon how many infected files are found on your computer. When the scan is finished, a test results window will display. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the files from your computer.
