How to Downgrade Ie7 to Ie6

Microsoft released the seventh version of its Internet Explorer Web browser, also known as IE7, as a follow up to the sixth installment of this software, IE6. Although IE7 offered features such as tabbed browsing and a Google search bar, many users preferred the layout and simple functionality of IE6 over its successor. Both users who installed IE7 on a computer already running IE6 and users without IE6 previously installed on their computers can downgrade IE7 to use IE6.

Tips & Warnings

  • Microsoft has since released an eighth version of Internet Explorer. You can find freeware downloads of many other browsers on the Internet. If you run a computer with Windows 98, you cannot use any version of Internet Explorer released after version six.

  • If you want to downgrade from IE7 to IE6 on a computer that did not already include IE6, you must first install another browser, such as Firefox or Opera so that you can connect to the Internet and download IE6 from Microsoft's website.
