How to Put Watermarks on Pictures Using Photoshop 5
Whether your favorite art medium is photography, painting or sketching, showing off your work can be a point of pride, but placing your work on the Internet can put you at risk of having it stolen, copied or pirated. To prevent other Web users from passing off your work as their own, protect yourself by adding a watermark to each picture. Watermarks are simple "stamps" placed digitally; they do not affect your actual artwork. Use a graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop 5 to create and apply watermarks for an extra layer of protection.

1
Open Photoshop 5, pull down the "File" menu and click "Open." Browse to the photo or picture to add a watermark onto and double-click the file name to open the image in Photoshop. Click "View" and click "Fit on Screen" to enlarge the image so it fills the entire Photoshop workspace.
-
2
Click the "Type" tool, which looks like a "T" on the "Tools" palette on the left of the screen. Select a font, text color and text size from the toolbar at the top of the screen.
-
-
3
Click the image and type "Trademark." Other options include "Copyright," "Do Not Download," typing your name or including the date.
-
4
Pull down the "Window" menu and click "Layers" to open the "Layers" palette. Double-click the new text layer, which has your words in it and a small white square with a "T" on its left. This opens the "Layer Style" window.
-
5
Check the "Bevel and Emboss" and "Satin" boxes on the "Styles" column and click the "OK" button to close the window.
-
6
Pull down the "Edit" menu, click "Transform" and click "Rotate." A rectangle surrounds the watermark and boxes appear in each corner. Twirl a box to rotate the watermark so it appears on an angle from the bottom-left corner to the top-right corner of the picture. Press the "Enter" key when satisfied.
-
7
Slide the "Opacity" bar at the top-right of the "Layers" palette to 50 percent. This is a way to create the faded look watermarks usually have, where you can see part of your image peeking through from below. Experiment with the "Opacity" slider to get your preferred transparency.
-
8
Click the small lined icon on the top-right of the "Layers" palette and select "Flatten Image." Pull down the "File" menu and click "Save As." Rename the image so that you do not overwrite the original and save it to your computer.
