How to Disable a SSL Port

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a security protocol that encrypts communication between a Web server and a browser. An SSL certificate is installed on the server, which provides information about the company who owns it and the website it is authorized for. If you do not wish to use SSL and would like to prevent access to the SSL port, you can do so by disabling the default SSL port of 443 in the Windows Firewall. You will need administrative access to your server to do this.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your system with an administrator account if you have not already done so.

    • 2

Click "Start" and type "cmd" in the search box.

    • 3

Hold "Shift" and press "Enter" to run the command prompt as an administrator.

    • 4

Type "netsh firewall delete portopening protocol=all port=443" without quotation marks. This will block all communication on the SSL port, which is 443.
