How to Report Sex Offenders in West Virginia
One of your duties as a citizen of West Virginia is to help keep your community safe. This does not mean that you have to put yourself in harm's way if you see or suspect a crime is taking place. However, it does mean that you should be reporting a known or suspected crime to the proper authorities. For example, if you believe that someone you know may be a sex offender, you should report this to the West Virginia authorities right away.

1
Write down everything you remember if you witnessed a crime or were the victim of a crime. It's important that you write down all possible details to accurately describe what happened to the West Virginia authorities. For location details, you can access a variety of West Virginia maps through Map West Virginia, a government website that can get you the information you need without having to return to the area where the crime took place.

2
Go to a hospital immediately before reporting a sex crime if you were the victim of the crime. You can find your nearest hospital through the West Virginia Hospital Association. The hospital will then be able to contact the authorities for you and gather any evidence needed to prove your case. If you are seriously hurt, call 911 as soon as possible.

Contact the West Virginia state police by calling 304-746-2100. They will be able to determine whether your information gets processed through the state authorities, or if not, they will direct you to a local precinct to report the sex offender.

4
Provide information found on the West Virginia State Sex Offender Registry (see Resource) if it applies to the sex offender you are reporting. The information found in the registry is there to give residents an idea of who is living in their neighborhood. So by leading the authorities to a known sex offender, it can simplify the process of proving their guilt.
