How Long Do You Cook Large Meatballs in a Convection Oven?

Convection ovens use circulating air to cook food, generally requiring either lower temperatures or less time. Convection ovens work well for cooking meatballs, and take about the same amount of time as you would cook in a conventional oven, you’ll just need to adjust the temperature.

Cooking Time for Large Meatballs

Preheat your convection oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit. For large meatballs, set the timer for 40 minutes. Always cook ground meat, whether beef, pork or poultry, to an internal temperature of 165 F. Use a food thermometer to take the temperature.

When using a convection oven, you should generally reduce the temperature about 25 degrees from the temperature you use for conventional ovens. You can also keep the same temperature but reduce the overall cooking time by 10 to 30 percent, or do a combination of both. Getting use to your own convection oven will take a little experimenting. Consult the manufacturer’s guidelines and always check food about 10 to 15 minutes before the end of the cooking time to prevent overcooking.
