How to Flat Twist Permed Hair
Flat twists are similar to cornrows except the method of creating them uses two strands of hair instead of three. Similar to the concept of French braiding as well in that you pick up more hair as you progress down the scalp, the two-strand method makes it easier to style yourself. Incorporating flat twists into permed or curly hair is an effective way to keep your hair pulled back and out of your face. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash your hair as normal. Towel dry the hair to remove excess water. Styling the hair while still damp will help you control the curls and limit frizz.
-
2
Part the hair around the top of your hairline with the comb into one inch to half inch sections and secure with clips.
-
-
3
Work one section at a time creating the flat twists. Un-clip a section and divide the hair in half. Be sure to keep both halves as equal as possible.
-
4
Cross the right section over the left. Cross the right section over again, but this time pick up some hair from beneath it and cross the combined strand over. By picking up hair and adding it to the strand you keep the twist close to your scalp. Repeat half way up your scalp or all the way to the back of your neck, depending on what look you are trying to achieve.

Tie off the twist when complete with a bobby pin, clip or hair tie. Move onto the next section of hair.

Tips & Warnings
Use a control gel or serum to keep hair in place as well as control frizz. If you are only twisting to the top of your scalp, the twist will serve as a headband keeping the hair out of your face but will allow the free-flowing curls to frame your face and neck.
