How to Make a Pirate's Hat for Children
Dressing up as different characters is often a favorite past time for young children. Whether it is for a holiday, school or simply a way to spend the afternoon, wearing the clothes of their favorite character provides children with a special thrill. If your child wants to resemble a pirate, you can help him along by creating a realistic looking pirate's hat to go with his ensemble.
Things You'll Need
- Thin strip of cardboard or oak tag
- Piece of black cardboard or oak tag
- Piece of paper the same size as the black cardboard
- Pencil
- White foam paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Stapler
- Stickers, feathers, sequins and other decorative items
Instructions
-
-
1
Place the strip of cardboard around your child's head and cut it to fit snugly around the circumference.
-
2
Staple the ends together to create the base for the hat.
-
-
3
Draw a pirate-hat shape on the black oaktag and cut it out. The easiest way to do this and make it symmetrical is to fold the piece of paper in half and draw half the pirate hat shape on that. Then cut it out, unfold and use as a pattern to cut the shape out of the black cardboard.
-
4
Draw a skull and crossbones on the white foam paper and cut it out. Glue to the front of the black oaktag.
-
5
Staple the black sheet to the cardboard hat base.
-
6
Decorate with feathers, sequins, stickers or anything else you would like.
