How do I Replace the SSD on an EEE PC Asus?

The Asus Eee PC laptop uses an SSD, or solid state drive, instead of a regular hard disk drive. The SSD drive is similar in appearance to a standard hard disk drive, but it doesn't contain any moving parts and uses microchips to store data. One of the other reasons Asus laptops use these drives is because the Eee model computer is much smaller than other laptops, and the smaller SSD hard drive is easier to fit in the unit. If you need to replace it, you'll find it's a straightforward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Power off your Asus Eee and remove the power cable. Close the display and turn the unit upside-down.

    • 2

Disconnect the rectangular battery pack from the rear of the unit. Locate the square upgrade compartment in the center of the bottom of the unit.

    • 3

Remove the two captive screws holding the compartment cover in place. Lift the cover to expose the hard drive and memory module. The hard drive is the rectangular component encased in a metal housing.

    • 4

Slide the hard drive out of the compartment and remove all screws from each corner of the metal housing around the drive.

    • 5

Remove the drive from the housing and set it aside. Fit a new drive inside the housing and replace the screws.

    • 6

Fit the hard drive in the compartment and replace the cover and screws.
