You must use ceramic craft paint if you want to successfully paint a glazed ceramic.

Painting on glazed ceramic isn't as simple as it may first appear. Glazed ceramic does not accept most paints, and you may find that after you attempt to paint glazed ceramic with normal paint, it will begin to rub off straight away. The glossy and shiny nature of glazed ceramic takes a certain amount of preparation to paint properly.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the glazed ceramic in soapy water, using the scrub brush to get rid of any dirt.

    • 2

Dry the glazed ceramic with a towel.

    • 3

Paint the glazed ceramic with a paintbrush, using the craft paints. Craft paints will bond to the ceramic, unlike all other paints. Let the painted ceramic dry thoroughly.

    • 4

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees F. Place the dry ceramic in the center of the oven for 40 minutes. Remove the ceramic with oven gloves.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use a vinegar solution to remove dirt from the ceramic instead of soapy water.

  • Do not attempt to paint the glazed ceramic with any other kind of paint, as it will not stick to the ceramic.
