How to Take Care of a Teak Floor
Teak floors range in color from soft honey gold to a brownish-red hue. A hard, durable wood, teak has the reputation of being easy to mill and use. Teak trees have dwindled in their native habitats in Asia due to the wood's desirability, which has resulted in teak plantations springing up in various locations to meet demand. You should only install teak flooring that has been properly sealed to repel water and moisture. Mature teak wood has natural water-repelling capabilities but flooring from such old growth specimens is hard to find. When the flooring has been properly sealed, it is low-maintenance wood flooring.

1
Place throw rugs over teak floors in high-traffic areas, such as doorways; this lessens the chance of wear or scuffing. It also keeps dirt that is tracked indoors from disfiguring the floor.
-
2
Attach felt pads to the bottoms of all furniture to prevent scuffing from occurring when moving the furniture. Round, rubber furniture-leg disks, or "sliders," that are designed to help ease the movement of furniture on a floor or carpet also work.
-
3
Pull curtains and close the blinds on a sunny day.Ultra violet rays will discolor teak wood flooring over time.
-
4
Wipe up all spills promptly with a dry cloth. Never allow a liquid spill to sit on a teak floor or it will damage it.
-
5
Clean the floor using a simple damp mop. Lightly wipe down the floor and do not let water accumulate on it.
-
6
Sweep the teak floor with a soft bristled broom. If you must use a vacuum, then use a cannister vacuum to make sure no damage occurs to the floor.
-
7
Place a humidifier in the room where the teak flooring is located during the dry winter months. Dry air can cause wood flooring to crack.
-
8
Wax the floor only when it requires waxing. Use a wax designed specifically for a teak floor and follow the directions on the label for application instructions.
