Online credit payments may be made through your bank or the card company.

Online credit card payments may be applied to your account the same day and can save money in late fees, interest and stamps. Many banks will allow you to pay your bills over the Internet, and many credit card companies have online payment options with no additional fees. You can make the payment directly with the credit card company or by using your online checking account profile. Both options are quick and simple to do.

Set up an online profile with your credit card company. The web address should be listed on the monthly statement. Supply the information requested to complete the registration process.

    • 2

Click on the "Make Payment" option on your account profile. Enter in the account information requested. Usually, this is a checking account or a savings account. You will need to know your bank's routing number, which can be found on the bottom left hand corner of your checks. You also may be able to pay with a debit card.

    • 3

Enter the payment amount and select the date that you want the payment to process. Click on the button to send your payment. Verify the amount and date and receive a receipt page. Print this page or copy down the transaction number to keep as a receipt for your payment.

    Use Your Bank's Website

    • 4

Access your online profile for your checking account on your bank's website. If you do not have one yet, click on the link to set it up.

    • 5

Select the "Bill Pay" tab in your user profile. Set up a new bill profile for the credit card account. Provide your account number, the name and address of the credit card company and other any information required.

    • 6

Choose the "Make Payment" option and select the credit card account from the list of bill companies. Enter the amount that you want to pay, and then click to confirm the date and amount. Keep a copy of the receipt by printing it or writing down the transaction number.

    • 7

Allow three to five business days for the payment to be posted to your credit card account, if the credit card company does not have a bill payment relationship with your bank. If they do, then it will take less time for your bank to send payment.
