Consider your kitchen's size before redecorating. Look at your kitchen and assess its size and the placement of your furniture. If you've got a smaller kitchen, it may be better to consider using the golden color as the room's base color. According to Fresh Home, lighter colors make a room look much bigger. If you have a bigger kitchen and want to play with the color red, assess where you'd like to the use the color--on the walls or cabinets or in accessories such as a tablecloth or kitchen seating.

Select a color for your kitchen that stands out and renews the space. Visit a paint store. Determine the shades of red and gold you'd like to use: a dark red, a fire-engine red or a maroon-red are interesting options or choose from a rich gold or a light, cool gold. Purchase the colors you'd like to use on your walls and/or your cabinetry.

Use golds and reds in small decorative items. Buy some decorative items that will bring in the colors of your freshly painted walls and cabinets. For example, if you have new golden walls, purchase a few golden pieces: a countertop vase, golden bowls and plates or a few small golden votive candles for the table. Likewise, if you have red walls, purchase some red cloth place mats or red table-top flowers for your vase. Do not overdo any one color. Instead, buy just enough small pieces to reflect the walls and cabinet colors.

Pull in the colors of your room to your tablecloth. Purchase a tablecloth in gold if your walls are red or purchase a tablecloth in red if your walls are gold. This will balance out the two colors in your room, especially if the table is large enough to really use the tablecloth as a decorative item.
