My HP OfficeJet 7310 Won't Scan

The HP OfficeJet 7310 all-in-one printer does more than just print documents. The printer has the ability to scan originals, make copies from those scans and send scanned documents in a fax transmission. As with any other printer, you will most likely run into some problems while using the 7310, including problems with the scanning unit. Paper jams in the scanner's feed assembly will completely stop all scanning procedures until you remove the jammed paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the automatic document feeder for paper jams. Remove all loose paper from the input tray.

    • 2

Press the printer's "Power" button and unplug the power cord from the back of the printer. Pull the feed tray out of its slot and set it aside.

    • 3

Lift up on the document feeder's cover, then lift up on the handles on the cleanout part until it comes free of the printer, then set it aside.

    • 4

Pull out any stuck pieces of paper. Replace the cleanout part until the two tabs audibly snap, then close the feeder's cover.

    • 5

Reinsert the input tray into its slot. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer and press the "Power" button. Open the top cover, exposing the scanning glass, and check the inside of the lid for stuck pieces of paper.

    • 6

Close the lid and scan your documents.
