How to Backup to a C Drive and Restore to D Drive
Use the Backup and Restore Center included in the Windows operating system to perform any data storage tasks. The utility is a useful tool that completes advanced storage functions without the need for purchasing expensive third-party software. With the Backup and Restore utility, you can backup a file to one volume and restore it to a different location.

Backup To C Drive

Click "Start," select "Control Panel" and choose "System And Maintenance." Click the link for "Backup And Restore Center."

Click the "Set up Backup" button to configure the settings for your backup. Click the "C:" drive icon for the destination for the backup and click "Next."

Select the "Let Me Choose" option to pick individual files and folders for the backup or click "Let Windows Choose" to back up the recommended files. Click "Next" to open the Confirmation window.

Click "Save Settings and run backup" to back up the files to the C: drive.
Restore To D Drive

Open the "Backup And Restore Center" and click the "Restore My Files" button.

Select the files you want to restore to the D: drive in the selection window. You can search for individual files by clicking "Browse By Files" or for entire folders by clicking "Browse By Folders."

Click the "In the following location" option in the destination selection screen that appears. Click "Browse" and select the "D:" drive icon.

Click "Restore" to restore the files to the D: drive.
