Instructions

    • 1

Make a list of all of the guests you want to invite to your party to get a good idea of how many invitations you need to make. Always invite more guests than you expect to show up so you will have enough people to keep the party going.

    • 2

Write down the essential information below your list that must be included in the invitations--the date, starting time, location and end time for the pool party, and any supplies each guest should bring, such as sunscreen, towels or floats.

    • 3

Think of the wording you want to use on the front of your invitation. Consider including words and phrases that imply a pool setting, such as "Dive into the fun," or "Make a splash with us."

    • 4

Use a computer document program, or write directly on a piece of cardstock with a marker, to put your invitation wording on the front of your card and the specifics of the party on the back or inside the card. Be sure to write loosely or select a fun font to express the relaxed nature of the party.

    • 5

Draw in decorations or add clip art to the document such as sunglasses, pictures of waves, palm trees, beach towels, pineapples or anything else you want to include. Place the added items along the sides or bottom of the card so that they don't cover over your text.

    • 6

Decorate the cards inside and out, front and back, until you are satisfied with how they look. Print out your cards when you're done using a color printer if you designed your invitations on computer.

    • 7

Add festive summer stickers to the outside of the envelopes the invitations will go into. Write a guest's name and address on each envelope, and stuff the envelopes with the invitations before mailing or handing out.

Tips & Warnings

  • If this party is to be held for children, then it's a good idea to list on the invitation how many supervising adults are confirmed for the party, and/or ask other parents to help supervise the pool activity.
