Care of Stella D Oro Daylilies Plants
The Stella de Oro, "star of gold," does not require a lot of maintenance. Stella de Oro daylilies flower during the summer and through the fall. The daylilies bloom yellow flowers that reach 18 inches tall. The hardy perennial can propagate itself, so new flowers will continue to flourish. The daylily will live for 24 hours and then it will die. Many flowers will grow from the stalks during the growing season. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Select a location where the Stella de Oro will receive full sunlight for six hours a day. The daylily will need well-draining soil that remains slightly acidic. A pH range between 6 and 6.5 is desirable. Add compost or peat moss to the soil to amend it when necessary.
-
2
Water the Stella de Oro daylily with 1 inch of water a week. If the soil dries out due to weather, you will need to water the plant more often. Check the soil by pushing your finger into it 1 inch deep. If the soil feels dry, then you need to water the flower.

3
Remove spent flower blooms from the daylily throughout the growing season. If you do not want the daylily to produce more flowers, cut off the seed pods that form.
-
4
Apply a slow-release fertilizer to the daylily in the spring and again in the middle of summer. Use a fertilizer high in phosphorous with a moderate amount of nitrogen. Apply the fertilizer according to the package instructions.
-
5
Remove weeds from around the daylily. The weeds will steal the nutrients that the plant needs to survive. Apply a 2 to 3 inch layer of mulch around the daylily like pine bark or pine straw to prevent weeds from growing. Remove the layer of mulch in the winter.
