How to Test a Silent Knight Smoke Detector
Smoke detectors play an important part in ensuring the safety of your home and family. It is wise to have a well-maintained, working smoke detector in every part of the house or workplace. Test your smoke detectors regularly to make sure that they are in good working order. Silent Knight brand (a division of Honeywell) smoke sensors have three different testing mechanisms--canned smoke, specially calibrated test magnets, and direct heat. Direct heat is the simplest method, and its one that you can do yourself if you have a hairdryer. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Plug in and turn on the hair dryer.
-
2
Hold the hair dryer about 12 inches from the Silent Knight smoke detector, directing the airflow at one of the two heat sensors (thermistors) on the smoke detector. If the sensor is working, the alarm will sound.

-
3
Allow the sensor to cool completely. Repeat the process to test the second thermistor. If either thermistor is not working, clean and retest the smoke detector. If it still does not respond, take it in for repair.
