Plans for a Garden Arch

Plans for a Garden Arch thumbnail
Morning glories grow well on a PVC garden arch.

A garden arch is a decoration that combines hardscape and vertical gardening. Garden arches can help you transition from one part of your garden to another while at the same time creating a support for climbing plants. You can make a garden arch out of almost any material. For lightweight plants such as morning glories or clematis, a garden arch made of PVC makes a low-cost garden arch. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pound rebar stakes halfway into the ground in sets of two. Space each stake in the set, 4 feet apart. Space the stakes 4 feet apart. These will create the foundation of your arch.

    • 2

Slip one end of your PVC pipe over the upright pieces of rebar. Bend the rebar in a U shape, and slip the other end of the pipe over the other end of the rebar.

    • 3

Wire the shorter ends of the 4-by-8-foot lattice together, using floral wire to create a single piece of lattice that is 4 feet wide and 24 feet long.

    • 4

Place the lattice over the PVC pipe. Lash the edges of the lattice to the PVC pipe using floral wire.

    • 5

Plant morning glory vines around the base of the lattice. The vines will cover the lattice as they grow.
