How To Fix a Deadbolt
Deadbolt locks are among the most reliable and strongest locks on the market. Locks are necessary on a home for both safety and insurance purposes. If you don't have a functioning lock on your home, your home insurance may be void in case of a burglary, says the Insurance Law Service organization. Although problems with deadbolt locks are uncommon, several problems do occur on occasion. Inspect the lock for loose screws. Tighten any screws to prevent misalignment between the deadbolt and the hole in the door frame.

Spray lubricant into the lock to prevent the bolt from sticking.

Replace short screws with longer screws to help prevent loosening. Screws may rip at the door's wood over time, causing the screws to loosen.

Spray or rub graphite into the key hole to unfreeze a locking mechanism and to remove dirt and debris.

File the edges of the deadbolt strike plate if the bolt gets stuck in the hole. Realign the strike plate and screw it in place if the sticking continues.
