How to Water Rose Bushes

Form a canal under and around the rose bush, so water can drain down to the roots instead of running away from the plant. With a garden spade, dig 3 inches down and completely around the rose bush.

Turn your garden hose on low so only a small stream trickles out.

Place the hose under the rose bush, near the base of the plant. Allow the water to run slowly for 30 minutes, completely saturating the ground. Move the hose to the next rose bush when finished.

Add a 2-inch layer of mulch under and around the rose bush to keep moisture in the soil.

Shower the rose bush with water through a low-flow spray nozzle once a week during the morning hours. Spray the bush for two to three minutes, washing away dirt and insects.

Check water levels daily during dry or windy periods by sticking a finger 2 inches deep into the soil.
