Instructions

  1. Bamboo Stalk Curtains

    • 1

Select dried bamboo stalks with a 1/2-inch to 1-1/2-inch diameter. The diameters need not be the same; mix the dimensions for an eclectic curtain design. The stalks should be at least 1 inch longer than the height of the opening where you plan to hang the curtain.

    • 2

Measure the height of open space in the doorway or window from the curtain rod to the desired end of the bamboo curtain. Cut bamboo stalks to this length. Cut as many stalks as you need to fill the width of the space based on the desired fullness of the curtain.

    • 3

Drill a 1/8-inch-diameter hole straight through each cut bamboo stalk, 3/4-inch from one end. This end is the top of the curtain.

    • 4

Cut a 10-inch-long strand of fishing line for each bamboo stalk. Thread the fishing line halfway through the drilled holes. The ends of the line should be even.

    • 5

Tie the fishing line around the curtain rod using a triple overhand knot (see Resources). You can adjust the hanging length of each bamboo stalk with the tightness of the knot.

    • 6

Tie each bamboo stalk to the curtain rod. Cover each knot with liquid jeweler's glue.

    Bamboo Bead Curtains

    • 7

Cut a length of fishing line twice as long as the height of the doorway or window opening, plus 10 inches.

    • 8

Thread a bamboo bead to the center of the line. Double the line so that the ends are even.

    • 9

Slide bamboo beads over the double line up to 5 inches from the end. Tie the open end around a curtain rod using a triple overhand knot (see Resources). Cover the knot with liquid jeweler's glue.

    • 10

Make additional beaded bamboo strands to fill the width of the curtain space.
