How to Make the Picture Clear Using Adobe Photoshop

Incorporating transparency, or clear areas, into your artwork can actually give the picture dimension, not take it away. Having clear pictures is useful when you want your images to be applicable to any kind of background, such as when you make Internet avatars and Web page icons. While you can't configure a camera to take a clear image, once you've got the picture, bring it into the Adobe Photoshop software and you're able to take away parts of the graphic, rendering it clear.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop, click the "File" menu and click "Open." Navigate to a picture to add clear elements to and double-click so the picture appears in the workspace.

    • 2

Click the "Lasso" tool on the "Tools" palette. Draw an outline around the foreground of the image or the part of the picture you want to keep. When you see a blinking line of "marching ants," right-click inside them and select "Layer via Copy."

    • 3

Pull down the "Window" menu at the top of the screen and select "Layers," opening the "Layers" palette. Notice two layers; the full image Background layer and the cut layer, Layer 1.

    • 4

Right-click the Background layer and select "Delete Layer." Click "Yes" and you're left with a clear background with just your selected part of the picture on it.

    • 5

Add more clear spots to the image by right-clicking the "Eraser" tool, which looks like a gray rubber school eraser, on the "Tools" palette. Select the "Background Eraser," which looks like the regular eraser but has a small scissors on the top of it.

    • 6

Pull down the eraser brush menu on the toolbar at the top of the screen. The menu is not labeled, but it is the second option from the left, next to the "Background Eraser" icon. Choose a small, solid round brush head and set a size of "5."

    • 7

Press and hold down the left mouse button, clicking and dragging on the picture. The places you click and drag over become clear. Increase or reduce the brush head size as desired.

    • 8

Click the "File" menu, click "Save As," type a new name for the picture, select "GIF" from the "Format" menu and save it to your computer.
