Business cards are a part of operating any business. They are the introduction to your product or services and it's important that they make a good first impression. With advanced computer technology, printing business cards on a home laser printer is achieved with basic knowledge of computers and a graphics programs. Cards are as simple as plain black text or as complicated as adding color, different font styles and images.

Things You'll Need

• Computer
• Printer
• Business card stock
• Graphics program including business card templates

Instructions

1. Assess the professional image you want to project to determine the style of business card to design. Different occupations will require different types of business cards and literature.

2. Choose card stock. Business card stock comes perforated with 10 cards per sheet. Basic white is the standard, but business card stock also comes in a variety of colors.

3. Open the business card template section of the graphics program on the computer. There may be several pre-designed templates to choose from or the option to start with a blank template. Whether pre-designed or blank, choose a template that fits the business card stock that has 10 cards.

4. Design the card using either one of the designs already on the graphics program or by adding text and images that suit your needs.

5. Set the printer settings and print off a single copy on plain paper. Hold the plain copy up to a sheet of the business card stock to make sure the cards line up between perforations. If they do, begin the printing process on the business card stock.

Tips & Warnings

• Use standard card stock instead of perforated business card stock. Cut the business cards out with a paper cutter for a more professional look. Using standard stock allows for a cleaner edge to the cards as well as being a heavier weight paper than typical business card stock.

• Using a home computer and printer may not give the look and feel to business cards that is achieved by using a professional printer.
