How to Make a Nylon Banner
Many people hang banners for holidays and special occasions, such as birthdays or anniversaries. Creating your own banners allows you to customize them to your particular event and taste. When making banners to hang outdoors, nylon fabric can be used to stand up to the elements. Nylon fabrics come in a variety of colors, maintain their shape and resist fading over time.

Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a rectangle for the background of your banner to fit your display pole, allowing 1 inch all around for hemming.
-
2
Turn the hem for the bottom edge under 1 inch and stitch close to the edge. Turn the fabric over. Tuck the raw edge under and pin in place. Stitch close to the fold.
-
-
3
Finish the two side edges in the same manner, mitering the corners.
-
4
Fold the top edge to the back to make a 2-inch rod pocket. Adjust the size of the pocket to fit your pole. Mark the fold.
-
5
Open the fold and install a tab with a buttonhole to attach the banner to the pole, if your pole has a hook. This will keep the banner from flipping around. Stitch the tab inside the fabric fold at one end of the banner.
-
6
Stitch under 1/4 inch along the top edge. Fold over and stitch close to the first line to encase the raw edges.
-
7
Fold the top edge to the back of the banner along the fold line with the tab on the inside. Stitch close to the hemmed edge to form a rod pocket.
-
8
Draw patterns to create the design for your banner. Cut out the pattern pieces.
-
9
Tape the pattern pieces to a large window or sliding door. Tape fabric pieces over the pattern pieces allowing light to shine through to trace your banner designs.
-
10
Trace the pattern shapes onto the fabric allowing an extra 1/2 inch around the pattern edges. Cut out the fabric pieces.
-
11
Arrange your fabric pieces on the banner. Decide the order for stitching them.
-
12
Remove all pieces and replace the one to be stitched first. Apply temporary adhesive to hold the piece in place while stitching.
-
13
Stitch around the edges using a long zigzag stitch. Trim close to the stitching. Finish the edges with a tight zigzag stitch.
-
14
Complete the design adding the additional pattern pieces.
-
15
Slip the banner onto the pole. Hook the banner to the pole using the hook and buttonhole tab.
