How to Compress a DVD to Xvid
If you have an XviD player on your computer and you'd like to rip your DVDs in XviD format, use free DVD-decrypting and XviD-converting software. According to the XviD Movies website, the XviD codec compresses whole DVDs to the size of a CD without losing the audio or video quality of the original. XviD files transfer readily to writable CDs and play back in most DVD players. With XviD-converting software, you can save room on your hard drive and watch high-quality movies conveniently.

Tips & Warnings
Clean your DVDs with a soft cloth before decrypting them. The decryption process taxes your DVD drive quite a bit, and dirty discs can cause errors.
