How to Open a Franchise for Cheap

How to Open a Franchise for Cheap thumbnail
Owning a franchise can be financially rewarding.

Opening a franchise for cheap is not a small endeavor, but can be rewarding both financially and personally. Purchasing a franchise means that your are buying into a business that is already established. Subway, McDonalds, Cost Cutters, Snap-On Tools, are some examples of franchises. There has to be some financial input on your part to become a franchise owner because you are buying a piece of something that is already established. What you will need to spend depends on the type of franchise you decide to open. Obviously, some franchises cost more than others, but all come with an upfront purchase price in addition to your merchandise, space and necessary equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

List all the types of businesses that you are interested in for your franchise. Think of your likes, hobbies, interests and what you have background in. For example, if your hobby is fishing, consider a franchise dealing with fishing, or if you are a sports fan, consider a franchise pertaining to sports. You should also consider Internet-based businesses, businesses you can run out of your home like catering, or a mobile business like a tool truck or dog-washing mobile vehicle.

    • 2

Research your franchise options. Search using keywords such as, "fishing franchises", "restaurant franchises", etc. Look carefully at the costs, the requirements, any required training, necessary space, required merchandise or equipment and profit expectations.

    • 3

Choose the franchise that fits you and your budget the best. Getting a franchise for cheap may mean you have to settle for a franchise that may not be your first choice. Franchises can cost anywhere from $12,000 up to several hundred thousand dollars.

    • 4

Negotiate the costs. You can "wheel and deal" on the costs of the initial purchase, of the merchandise, of the lease space, almost anything. If you want to get the cheapest rates possible, you have to be willing to ask for lower costs and to shop around. However, be aware of scams. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. The costs you pay have to be fair to both parties.
