How to Mount a JL Audio W7
The JL Audio W7 is a large subwoofer, recognized for its formidable dimensions and power handling. The W7 employs a unique mounting system, designed to remove the appearance of unsightly screws and mounting hardware. The subwoofer is made to hide the screws under the surround, utilizing a patented securing ring to keep the surround in place. This is important, given the high output capabilities of the driver. Following specific directions is required to prevent damage or odd appearance.

- Drill
- 1-inch wood screws, 12
- Phillips bit attachment
- Speaker wire
- Wire strippers
- Enclosure

Place the woofer's magnet on a firm surface, with the cone facing up.

Strip off 1/2 inch of insulation from the end of the speaker wire. Twist the bare wire together tightly on each lead to facilitate easier installation into the terminals.

Push up on the positive speaker terminal, exposing the post hole. Insert the positive wire, identified by writing or a molded ridge on the wire's jacket. Release the spring-loaded terminal to secure the wire. Repeat for the negative wire.

Lower the woofer into its enclosure. Slide your fingers around the perimeter of the surround, where it meets the metal ring underneath. Gently pull back on the surround, lifting the surround from its flange and exposing the screw holes.

Screw in the 12 wood screws into the designated holes. Replace the surround into its flange.

Place the included thin O-ring around and over the surround. Press evenly on the ring to seat it, securing the surround into its inner flange.

Place one end of the clamp ring at the top or bottom of the woofer, centered for cosmetic purposes. Press the ring around the woofer with your thumb, until the two ends of the ring match up. A good install will yield a small seam.
