How Do I Organize Booster Clubs?
Booster clubs form to raise money, often for school sports teams. Parents, teachers and coaches, as well as the student athletes, are all part of the booster club. The booster club organizes events where patrons can come, have fun and make donations. Many of these events center on food. Help organize your booster club so your group can raise as much money as possible.

1
Draft a letter asking for help that will go to parents of all the students involved in the team or activity. Explain that you will not need everyone’s help all the time, but on a rotating basis. Set a date for a meeting.
-
2
Write up a set of rules for the booster club, such as what parents can and cannot do during games and off-season times. Set up rules stating what the booster club funds can go toward, such as for equipment for the team, but that the money can't go to individual members of the team for things like camps. The Internal Revenue Service has strict rules for fundraising so consult someone at the school district or a tax expert to make sure your funds are being kept and reported properly.

3
Come up with as many different ideas for fundraising events as you can on your own. Ask the parents and students if they have any more ideas at the meeting. Try to have as many different events as possible so you can have more choices.
-
4
Decide which events you want to do. Plan to work on a variety of events to enlist the help, in the way of donations, of as many different people as possible.
-
5
Designate different parents and students to work on events. Plan for parents to help with meals before games if necessary, to attend and supervise different fundraising events and help get information out quickly if there are sudden changes in the schedule.

Tips & Warnings
You may want to have a coach from another school read the rules for your booster club before the first meeting. Have the coach give you some insight on what to include and what not to include. If possible, you may want to take another booster club’s rules and adapt them to fit with your school.
Get as many parents involved as you can. Spreading out the work will help them realize that it really will not take that much of their time if everyone participates. Give them a call if they do not call you. If you need help, do not be afraid to ask for it.
