A Raw file offers more subtle and advanced controls than other image formats.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 comes with a subprogram called Camera Raw that is capable of processing raw file types. A CR2 file is a file format called "Canon RAW," which is a larger and more complex format than standard JPEG. It is mostly used by professional photographers to have more control over elements during post-production. Raw files can be adjusted first using the Camera Raw subprogram and then opened within the normal Photoshop editing program for further alteration.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Photoshop, then click "Open" from the "File" menu at the top of the program.

    • 2

Navigate to the location of your CR2 files, select them and click "Open." This will launch the Camera Raw editor inside Photoshop.

    • 3

Adjust any of the settings you'd like to alter using the panel on the right. Different tabs control qualities like exposure, levels and color balance.

    • 4

Click the "Save Image..." button to keep your changes or click "Open Images" to load the images into Photoshop's normal editing mode.
