How to Troubleshoot a Kenmore Freezer
Kenmore manufactures several models of chest and upright freezers designed for household use. A standard one-year warranty covers all repair and labor costs incurred within the first year of ownership. If a Kenmore freezer does not operate properly, inspect the appliance and identify the problem. Repair minor issues at home and avoid waiting for a service technician or paying for a service call after the warranty expires. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

Freezer Does Not Run
-
1
Plug the freezer into another electrical outlet without a ground-fault interrupt. A ground-fault interrupter is designed to trip during thunderstorms, electrical surges or high humidity. The starting of the motor on the freezer interrupts the circuit, turning off the power to the freezer.
-
2
Turn the temperature control away from the "Off" position to turn the freezer on. Select the desired setting. Food can be stored safely even if placed in the warmest setting. Turn the control knob to a colder setting, if desired. The temperature setting is a matter of personal preference.

3
Replace blown fuses or reset thrown breakers, if needed. Open the fuse box and examine the fuses. A fuse that is cloudy or black is blown. Turn fuse counterclockwise to unscrew and remove it. Insert a new fuse and turn it clockwise to tighten.
Freezer Runs Often or Too Warm
-
4
Allow a newly installed freezer to cool for four hours before use. Allow it to cool down to the correct temperature after adding large amounts of food or unplugging the unit for an extended period of time. This is normal. If the freezer does not cool down after several hours, contact a qualified service technician.
-
5
Avoid leaving the door open for extended periods or opening the door too often. Open the door only when necessary. Warm air enters the freezer and raises the temperature when the door is opened often. Keep the door closed and allow it cool for several hours. If the freezer still does not cool, call a qualified service technician.
-
6
Adjust the temperature control. Turn the control to a cooler setting. Allow the freezer to cool down to the desired temperature. If the freezer does not cool down after several hours, call a qualified service technician for service.
-
7
Wipe the freezer door gasket with a damp cloth. The freezer door gasket is the strip that seals the door when it is closed. Change a cracked or worn gasket. Turn off the freezer. Pull back the edge of the gasket to expose the nuts. Remove the nuts with a nut driver to free half the gasket. Wipe the area with a damp cloth and push the new gasket under the freezer tray with a putty knife. Remove the next nut and move the new gasket into place. Insert the nut and tighten with a nut driver. Continue until the old gasket is removed and the new one is installed.
-
8
Call a qualified service technician if the freezer continues to run too often or does not cool down.
Water or Moisture
-
9
Clean the freezer gasket with a damp cloth. Replace a cracked or worn gasket. See Step Four above for instructions.
-
10
Refrain from opening the door unnecessarily. Repeatedly opening the door allows warm air to enter the freezer, which results in the development of moisture.
-
11
Consider weather changes. Frost forms on the interior walls of the freezer during humid weather conditions. This is normal and will subside during periods of decreased humidity.
