2
Cut out pictures of rooms you like from magazines, and put the pictures in the folder with your budget. Use the pictures to help choose what things you will do for your home remodel.

3
Select paint swatches at your home-improvement store, paint store or department store. Tape your paint swatches to the walls on each level of the tri-level home. Doing this can help you to visualize the colors on your walls before you purchase the paint and start painting.

4
Select floor samples from your home-improvement center or flooring store. You may have to purchase the floor samples at a small cost. Put the samples on top of your current flooring in each room of the home to help you imagine what the rooms will look like with the various choices. Select a floor to install in your home.

5
Select a variety of light fixtures for your home. Select different light fixtures for each level of the house. The different light fixtures will add a new decorative touch to your home.
-
6
Update the appliances in your kitchen and laundry room. They come in a wide variety of colors and sizes, and the process of selecting and installing them will allow you to make a variety of choices that will help to determine the finished look of your remodel project.

7
Select new window treatments for your rooms. To greatly change the look and feel of the rooms, select window treatments that are completely different from what you currently have. For example, if your home currently has curtains on the windows, select shades or blinds.

8
Contact your local code enforcement official before you begin any remodeling work. Find out whether you need permits for any of the work you plan to do in connection with the project. Doing this at the beginning avoids the surprise of having to pay fines later on.
