How to Decorate a Nursery Online

Preparing for a new baby can be fun with the proper planning tools.

Plan your baby's nursery in advance to avoid forgetting any essentials. Planning in advance also allows you to control costs since you have time to compare costs and brands before making a purchase. Use an online nursery planner to ensure you have adequate space for all the decorations and furniture you wish to include in the baby's nursery.

1. Visit Potterybarnkids.com and search "Nursery Planner" in the top right toolbar.

2. Review the tips for creating an optimal nursery design. The website encourages you to keep your furniture and decor functional, but with a personal touch. Browse items on baby furniture websites that can be personalized and that fit your nursery theme.

3. Write down the dimensions of your nursery including doors, closets and built-ins. Measure ceiling heights to determine what possibilities exist for ceiling decorations. Once you have fully outlined the space, decide which furniture pieces can fit into the nursery. Common items include bookcases, rocking chairs, cribs, changing tables and side tables.

1. Visit Babysdream.com to use your measurements and planning to create a virtual baby nursery design online. Click "Launch" on the baby nursery home page.

2. Enter the depth and length of the nursery in the boxes provided. A new window will open with a large box representing your baby's nursery. The left toolbar includes all of the planning tools you will need for designing your nursery.

3. Create a name for your plan in the left toolbar. This will be helpful when saving the final nursery layout to your computer.

4. Use the drop-down boxes in the left toolbar to choose the categories of decor and furniture you would like to use in your nursery. Movable icons will appear at the bottom of the left toolbar. Drag and drop the furniture and accessory icons into the large box.

Tips & Warnings

• Browse websites of interior designers who may be able to lend creative ideas to your nursery space and decor planning.

• Leave a play area in the room. It may be tempting to fill all available space with furniture and accessories, but your baby will grow quickly and will need room to crawl and play.
