Instructions

Elmo Face Invitation
-
1
Fold a piece of 12-by-12 bright red card stock in half, horizontally, so that it’s wider than it is tall. The crease, or hinge, should be across the top.
-
2
Measure and cut the card stock in half, vertically, so that you have two six-inch-wide card forms. Make as many party invitation cards as you need.
-
-
3
Trace a two-inch oval template on orange paper, one for each invitation. Cut them out.
-
4
Place one oval dead center on the front cover of a card form. It should be wider than it is tall. Affix it with glue to make Elmo’s nose.
-
5
Lay a dinner plate, face down, over the cover. Arrange it so the bottom edge of the dinner plate is about ½ inch below the nose.
-
6
Trace along the bottom of the plate with pencil to make a smile. Don’t let the edges of the smile touch the edges of the card. Trace over the smile with black marker.
-
7
Glue two large googly eyes above the nose so that the bottom of the eyes are just resting on the top of the nose. Flip open the Elmo invitation and write your party information.
Elmo’s World Invitation
-
8
Get a blank white card form, or make one by cutting and folding white card stock.
-
9
Use brightly colored crayons to decorate the front of the invitation. Write, “We’re having a party at Elmo’s World,” across the top in a childlike print. Write some letters backward or line up the letters unevenly.
-
10
Draw stick figures and simple lines on the cover of the card, as a young child would, to mimick Elmo’s famous drawing style. Draw a simple window shape and goldfish bowl in the background, two things found in Elmo’s World. Make a stick figure of Elmo with a red, football-shaped head and party hat in front of a birthday cake with candles.
-
11
Write information on the inside of the card. Make it legible but imperfect so it looks as though it was written and drawn by a 5-year-old artist.
TV Invitation
-
12
Use a card form, or cut and fold card stock. Cut out a piece of black card stock the same size as the cover of the card.
-
13
Place a smaller rectangle template on top of the black card stock, centered. Trace around it with a pencil and cut it out. Discard the center and you will have a black frame shape.
-
14
Glue the black frame shape on the cover of the card so the black frame is the TV and the cut-away section is the screen. Punch three or four holes along the bottom of the black frame to look like buttons on a television.
-
15
Decorate the television “screen” using Elmo birthday stickers from a party or craft store.

Tips & Warnings
If you prefer, you can cut the red card form for the Elmo head invitation into an oval shape.
If your little artist is up to the task, allow him to color his own “Elmo’s World” invitation. Scan his image and print it on every invitation using your computer.
If you don’t have a rectangle template, use an index card. Cut it to the size you want for your “TV screen” first, and then trace it on the black card stock.
