Clean windshields are essential to adequate driving visibility and vehicle maintenance. Car windshields are exposed to dirt, sap, dead bugs, tar and other road debris, which accumulates on the glass. Cleaning windshields with waxy glass cleaners can increase buildup on glass and produce streaks and film. Film residue on windshields creates glares for drivers and makes road visibility hazy. Clean windshields frequently to ensure proper visibility and improve the vehicle's appearance. Fortunately, basic solutions are effective at cleaning and removing film from car windshields.

Step 1

Fill a spray bottle with 1 cup of water, then add 1/3 cup of vinegar. Shake the bottle to thoroughly mix the solution.

Step 2

Spray the vinegar solution liberally onto the entire windshield. Immediately wipe a surgical towel across the windshield, using back and forth motions. Overlap each stroke to prevent missing any areas.

Step 3

Dry the windshield with a waffle weave microfiber towel. Buff the windshield with the towel to remove any remaining film or residue.

Step 4

Clean the interior surface of the windshield, using the same procedure.

Step 5

Inspect both sides of the windshield for remaining film or streaks. If residue remains, repeat the cleaning process until you are satisfied with the results.
