How do I Obtain Temporary Residence Status from the Nevada DMV?

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has clear definitions of temporary resident status, or seasonal resident status. There are two primary parts of Nevada DMV law that relate to seasonal residents. The first is that seasonal residents are not required to obtain a Nevada driver's license. If they want one anyway, they cannot renew it by mail. Secondly, seasonal residents 10 years old or older can get Nevada state identification cards, provided they do not have a Nevada-issued driver's license. When marking "seasonal resident" on application forms, there are certain requirements you may have to prove to Nevada authorities, upon request.

Instructions

    • 1

Prove that you temporarily reside in Nevada at least 31 consecutive days every year. A utility bill in your name can prove this.

    • 2

Show that you have a temporary residence in Nevada. A utility bill in your name can also suffice to prove this.

    • 3

Provide evidence that you go back to your primary state at least once a year. A mortgage contract, rental contract, pay stub, or utility bill in your name from your home state can give that proof.

    • 4

Show that you registered to vote or pay income tax in another state. Your voter registration card or previous years' state income taxes from your home state shows this.

    • 5

Do not work or otherwise make money regularly in Nevada. Nevada state authorities can use your Social Security number to verify that you haven't legally worked in the state.

Tips & Warnings

  • You need only provide proof of these statements to Nevada authorities upon request; however, Nevada's application form for driver's licenses and identification cards ends with a standard statement to swear your statements are true, under penalty of law.
