Olive oil can hydrate a dry scalp.

Itchy, flaky skin on the scalp, commonly known as dandruff, can actually be caused by dry skin, according to the Mayo Clinic website. Although dandruff can be annoying and embarrassing, when dry skin is the cause, it is often easily treatable. Hydrating the scalp can put an end to itchy, dry skin and unsightly flakes.

Tips & Warnings

  • An overabundance of fungus on the scalp, seborrheic dermatitis or scalp psoriasis can cause excessive dandruff, according to WebMD. See a doctor if you experience lesions on your scalp or if you develop extreme redness, silvery scale-like patches or yellow, greasy flakes.
