How to Adjust a Shimano 3cc
The Shimano 3cc internally geared rear hub makes shifting and riding your bicycle easier than ever. Since the chain on an internally geared bike does not move from cog to cog when you shift gears there is no worry of it falling off the bike, making for a less stressful ride. However, if an internally geared hub is not adjusted correctly, it may not shift as effectively or accurately as it should, leading to unwanted gear skipping. Learn how to adjust your 3cc hub and enjoy a smooth ride every day.

1
Set your bike on its kickstand or in a dedicated work stand.
-
2
Spin the cranks of the bike forward and use the shifter on the handlebars to shift the bike into second gear. On the rear wheel axle there is a small plastic "looking glass" marked with two white lines. Inside is a small red indicator. This indicator should be centered between the two white lines when the hub is correctly adjusted.

3
Loosen the rear hub barrel adjuster using an 8 mm wrench. This will allow to the barrel adjuster to twist, which will tighten or loosen the cable.
-
4
If the indicator in the looking glass sits too close to the right line, twist the barrel adjuster counter-clockwise until it is centered between them. If the indicator sits too far to the left, twist the barrel adjuster clockwise until it is centered.
-
5
Tighten the barrel adjuster nut using an 8 mm wrench. Take the bike out for a test ride to make certain the hub shifts quickly and accurately.
