Even though several million people all over the world own cell phones, there are still people who do not. Text-messaging is possible without a cell phone since several websites offer services that allow you to send text messages, picture messages or other files to cell phones.

      Open up your internet browser. Type one of the URLs listed in the Resources section below into the browser bar and press Enter. This will take you to one of many websites that allows users to send text messages over the Internet. The different sites often have slightly different interfaces, but the following represents the general process you need to follow.

      Type your text message in the body area. Pay particular attention to the character maximum. Many websites have a limit on the length of your message, often 150 characters.

      Type the recipient cell phone number in the "To" box. Enter the ten digit number in 1234567890 format. Most websites do not require a "+1" in front of the phone number.

      Click the "Send" button. The message will be sent out to the phone number you specified.

  • Most websites do not provide you with the opportunity to receive text messages in reply.
