How to Navigate Web Pages

There are several different ways that you can navigate Web pages on the Internet. Using a browser allows you the convenience of viewing pages on your computer, mobile phone or other types of electronic equipment with Internet capabilities. These steps will guide you on how to navigate Web pages using the browser on your computer, or from a mobile device, such as an iPod, iPad or Blackberry phone.

Instructions

  1. Navigate Web Pages Using Your Computer

    • 1

Open your Web browser to view a page. For example, if you use Microsoft Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, double-click on the browser's icon on your desktop.

    • 2

Type a website address in the locator bar and press "Enter" to load the page into your browser.

    • 3

Look for a navigation menu on the Web page. Depending on how the page is designed, you might see it at the top, bottom, left or right side. Normally, navigation menus have several hyperlinks that you can click on to view other pages on the site. For example, you might see a row of hyperlinks for "Home," "About Us," "Products" and "Contact Us" listed on the navigation menu.

    • 4

Hover your mouse over a hyperlink and click it. You can tell hyperlinks from normal text or images because when you move your mouse over a hyperlink, the arrow changes into a hand. Sometimes, hyperlinks are underlined or a different color from the rest of the text.

Navigate Web Pages Using Your Mobile Phone

    • 5

Open your mobile Web browser. For example, if you have Safari installed on your iPhone, iPad or Blackberry, look for the icon on the application screen and tap it.

    • 6

Use the keyboard on your mobile phone. Type a website address in the search box. Tap the text box with the magnifying glass search icon.

    • 7

Use your finger to navigate Web pages. For example, if you're using an iPhone, rotate it 90 degrees to see a page in portrait or landscape orientation. Double-tap the screen to zoom in or out. This will increase or decrease the size of the text or image on the page.

    • 8

Look for several buttons located near the top of the page, such as "Add Bookmark," "Forward," "Backward," "Pages" and "Stop." Use them to help you navigate the page.

    • 9

Tap the "Page" button near the bottom of the screen to view several open pages. Swipe the screen, left or right, to view the web pages. Tap on the page you want to see.
