How to Boil Baby Bottle Nipples
While boiling baby bottle nipples is not generally necessary, it may be advisable in certain situations. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises parents to make sure all their baby's feeding utensils are clean. When using hot, soapy chlorinated water, further sterilizing is usually not necessary. In cases where the water is not chlorinated, parents are advised to boil their baby's bottle parts. It is important to take extra care when boiling bottle nipples, as they tend to break down quicker over time when boiled regularly.

Fill a small saucepan with clean water.

Place the pan on a stove burner.

Turn the burner on high and bring water to a boil.

Drop bottle nipples into the boiling water.

Boil the nipples for five to 10 minutes. It is important not to let the nipples boil for more than 10 minutes as this can cause damage to the nipple.

Remove nipples from the hot water with a pair of clean cooking tongs.

Place the nipples on a clean, dry towel.

Allow the bottle nipples to dry and cool before using.

Tips & Warnings
When rubber nipples are boiled, it is normal for them to change color. This is not a cause for concern unless the nipples show extreme fading or other signs of being damaged such as cracks.
Always check the manufacturer's recommendations printed on the package. Certain nipples are not meant to be boiled.
If boiling bottle nipples regularly, check them often for signs of wear such as cracks as boiling causes them to wear out faster. A damaged bottle nipple can present a choking hazard.
