How to Cite a Web Page in APA Style

The Internet has become a top source for information, due to the large amount of information uploaded daily and the ease of access for those with a computer and an Internet connection. Writers must be able to provide readers with the sources of the information they use for credibility. Since they often conduct their research online, they must know how to cite the web pages to which they refer. This is often done using American Psychological Association (APA) style.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin the citation with the name of the author. This information may be provided at the bottom of the page. According to information from Westfield State University's Ely Library, the name may be preceded by "Maintained by," "Author" or "Compiled by." The APA recommends beginning the citation with the title of the web page if the author's name is not given.

    • 2

Include a publication date. You may find this at the bottom of the page, as well. The date of the last update and the copyright date are acceptable. Write n.d. (no date) if no date is given.

    • 3

Provide the web page title. According to Westfield State University, it is appropriate to give the title of the particular article of interest on the web page, as well as the title of the website.

    • 4

Give the address of the page. This is available in the address bar. Readers should be able to use the address to get to the referenced document or a page that brings them close to it.

    • 5

Review the citation. It may look like one of the following:
